Five New Towers Could Bring Even More Condos, Hotels, and Retail to DTLA’s Booming South Park

It’s been a couple months since a new project was announced in Downtown LA’s construction-rich South Park, so we were way overdue for news about a showy new development. Right on cue are two proposed condo towers at Twelfth Street and Grand Avenue, where previously only one (at 37 stories) had been concretely in the works before. New renderings on the website of developer City Century, via Urbanize LA, reveal how the two planned towers would fit in with their surroundings.

The latest tower, set to rise at 1233 South Grand Avenue, will be 22 stories tall and hold about 150 condos (with an eighth-floor amenity deck), plus 5,000 square feet of retail or possibly restaurant space on the ground floor. There will also be six levels of parking, with four above ground and two below. The website doesn’t divulge any information about the tower at 1201 South Grand Avenue, the one that was reportedly going to hit 37 stories.

The developers’ site also shows plans for another South Park project, not far from LA Live. Referred to as LA Gateway, the mixed-use complex would turn a 3.5-acre property into what renderings show as a three-towered development with a five-star hotel (125 to 150 rooms), a four-star hotel (400 to 500 rooms), and residential units (no count mentioned). The project would also include up to 75,000 square feet of retail space along Olympic.
