40 units for very low-income tenants
A new rendering released by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning offers a first look at a very contemporary-looking seven-story affordable housing complex planned for Skid Row.
The rendering, spotted by Urbanize LA, was included in a tweet from the planning department (yes, the planning department has a Twitter account), which noted that the project will include 40 units set aside for very low-income tenants.
Proposed for 508 East Fourth Street, the new structure is being planned by prolific nonprofit affordable housing developer Skid Row Housing Trust. Approved by the City Planning Commission, it’s set to replace the existing Hart Hotel—an affordable apartment complex housed in a smaller, 104-year-old brick building.
The new project will only add a single unit of affordable housing to the site, but the larger complex will have space for supportive services for residents.
This isn’t the only project Skid Row Housing Trust is undertaking in the area. The developer also plans to construct a sleek 100-unit complex designed by Santa Monica-based firm Killeffer Flammang Architects and a 150-unit project designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture.
