Refurbished Cliff May house with a pool asks $906K in Long Beach

The midcentury home has walls of glass and vaulted ceilings

This sleek Long Beach home was built in 1953 and designed by innovative homebuilder Cliff May, who pioneered the modern-style ranch house. The 1,428-square-foot residence is located in the Rancho Estates neighborhood in the northeastern part of the city—a collection of tract homes constructed in the mid-1950s and primarily designed by May.

This particular home has been updated since it was built. Per the listing, a lanai has been covered over and turned into an additional living area, and a major remodel has been undertaken since the home last sold in 2014 (for $ 750,000).

New features include cork flooring, stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and birchwood vanities and cabinets.

Despite all the new features, the home retains a fair bit of midcentury flair, with walls of glass, beamed and vaulted ceilings, an open floorplan, and plenty of indoor-outdoor access.

The home has two bedrooms (though the listing notes that a third was removed and could be easily recreated with the addition of a wall) and two bathrooms. It sits on a 5,400-square-foot lot with a swimming pool and a tree-shaded back patio with a fire pit.

Asking price is $ 906,000.
