It will link the Expo and Green lines
Construction on the Crenshaw/LAX Line is underway right now, tunneling under parts of Los Angeles to create a new 8.5-mile long rail line that will bring eight new Metro stations to South LA and Inglewood and an eventual link to Los Angeles International Airport.
A new flyover video offers an easy way to visualize where the future light rail line will go and how it will fit into the neighborhoods it traverses when it opens in 2019.
This flyover of the forthcoming rail line comes courtesy of students at LA Trade Tech Community College (LATTC), who worked with Metro to produce the video, says The Source.
The video begins at the Expo Line’s existing Expo/Crenshaw station and travels south on Crenshaw, Florence, and ultimately down to Aviation Boulevard, near the airport.
The Crenshaw line’s route will pass through Baldwin Hills, Leimert Park, Hyde Park, and Inglewood until finally hitting the Aviation/Century station, where it will connect with the Green Line.
The line travels below and above ground, and the flyover format makes it very easy to understand where those transitions happen.
Not featured in the short video is the major transit hub at 96th Street and Aviation Boulevard, which will serve both the Green and Crenshaw/LAX lines and be the main transfer point to the LAX People Mover.
The Airport Metro Connector 96th Street Transit Station is scheduled to break ground in the 2018-2019 fiscal year and be complete between 2021 and 2023—in time for the Olympics that LA might host.
