Neighborhood Spotlight Part IV: Great Neighborhoods for Families in Los Angeles

Today, we’re venturing to east side Los Angeles and visiting Silver Lake, Los Feliz and Atwater Village.  These trendy neighborhoods boast some of the best restaurants, art and architecture and parks in the nation, making them perfect locations for your family home.

Silver Lake

Nestled between Echo Park and Los Feliz, Silver Lake has emerged as one of the nation’s most creative communities rich in art, restaurants, and modernist architecture.  This 2.75 square mile neighborhood is highly diverse with a median age for residents of 35.[1] Forbes, which once dubbed Silver Lake “America’s Hippest Hipster Neighborhoods”, has stated: “the trendy community boasts some of the nation’s most lauded food trucks and farmers markets, a multicultural blend of residents with eclectic professions, and a booming arts scene. Even the buildings exude an avant garde aesthetic a hipster could love: Silver Lake is home to some of the most celebrated modernist architecture in the country, including Richard Neutra’s VDL Research House and John Lautner’s Silvertop.”[2]  The neighborhood’s walkability, access to farmer’s markets, restaurants and shops, proximity to downtown LA, and excellent schools are all contributing factors to it being one of the best neighborhoods to live in.

Los Feliz

This neighborhood boasts an eclectic mix of restaurants and boutiques, as well as some of LA’s most beloved attractions, including the Griffith Observatory, the LA Zoo and the Greek Theater. Los Feliz has been home to movie stars, musicians and the Hollywood elite, and it has some of the best-known residential architecture in the city, including two homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Richard Neutra’s Lovell House.[3]  The high walkability score, the beautiful park and excellent school district make this neighborhood one of the best in LA for you and your family.

Atwater Village

Once dubbed “LA’s Neighborhood of the Year” by Curbed LA[4], Atwater Village is among LA’s most rapidly gentrifying, with an influx of young creative professionals and businesses catering to them.[5]  This neighborhood is rich with rustic Italian restaurants, bakeries and a farmer’s market[6], and its walkability rating and good school district make this neighborhood perfect for you and your family home.
