Monthly rents in the area range from $ 1,010 all the way up to $ 3,000
Los Angeles-area rents are among the highest in the nation, but there’s still plenty of variation from neighborhood to neighborhood. A new survey from rental listing site Zumper shows just how much prices can differ within the region.
The report shows that median rents for one-bedroom units ranged from $ 1,010 to $ 3,000 across the LA area. Not surprisingly, the highest prices can be found in the western part of town, with Santa Monica ($ 3,000), Venice ($ 2,890), and Marina del Rey ($ 2,700) leading the way.
The three beach communities have been contending for the No. 1 spot for a while, and Venice could make it soon if prices continue to rise in that area. Rents there have jumped $ 40 since Zumper’s September report, while prices in Santa Monica haven’t changed.
The priciest area beyond the Westside is Downtown LA, where the median price of a one-bedroom is $ 2,600. That’s up 6 percent since September, when it was $ 2,450.
Prices also jumped in the Westchester-Playa del Rey area, where rents increased to $ 2,300 in March from $ 2,050 in September.
On the other end of the spectrum, the more affordable parts of town are clustered in the southeastern part of the area. Immediately below Downtown, in Historic South Central, median rents are less than half of what they are in the neighborhood to the north.
The cheapest part of LA is Central-Alameda ($ 1,010), Zumper said.
That’s followed closely by what Zumper calls Voices of 90037 (that’s the name of the area’s neighborhood council). Bounded by Martin Luther King Boulevard to the north, Normandie Avenue to the west, Gage Avenue to the south, and the 110 Freeway to the east, the neighborhood has one-bedroom rents around $ 1,050 per month.
